Governance
CHURCH COUNCIL: Responsible for the overall coordination, encouragement and growth of the individual ministry committees that make up church government. While the ministry committees are all responsible and empowered to act on their own in the best interests of the church, the Church Council provides a degree of oversight to these essential groups. The Church Council meets the 2nd Sunday of each month at 8:00 a.m. (in Fellowship Hall). All church members are welcome to attend. Mike Moore, chairperson.
TRUSTEES: Make decisions about the church’s finances and maintenance, keep track of our overall well-being, safety, and compliance with “best practices” for our church. They are often a “hands on” Trustee group – making repairs, taking care of maintenance, working with our partner church in Wichita, KS, to be good stewards of our physical plant and our financial and other resources. Pete Von Vett, chairperson.
OUTREACH & NURTURE (INREACH): The Outreach & Nurture committee’s mission(s): (1) Outreach: Putting faith into action by reaching out to those in need and standing up for social justice in local, state, national and global arenas. We partner with other churches, community members, and various United Methodist ministries to address a variety of needs and issues. (2) Nurture (Inreach): We care for our membership through spiritual formation & education (Sunday School, youth activities, adult education, Bible study); nurture friendship among our church family and the wider community (Fun & Friendship Nights, special events – Halloween Party, VBS, retreats, outings, Men’s Breakfast, Bailey Days, Rhubarb Fest). Karen Gatlin, chairperson; Kim Moore, Linda Zimmerman, Betty Crawford, and others, co-leaders.
STAFF/PASTOR-PARISH RELATIONS COMMITTEE: Oversees the work of the Staff and the Pastor; serves as liaison between Pastor and congregants; supervises those considering lay or ordained ministry and makes recommendations to the District and Conference regarding candidates for ministry. Doug Jenner, chairperson.
